The Luiss Quantum & AI Lab is a research initiative established in 2021 within the ecosystem of Luiss Guido Carli, focused on Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and quantum-inspired methods. The Lab brings together researchers and professionals with backgrounds in physics, mathematics, data science and finance, with expertise in complex systems, statistical modeling and computational methods. Its activities focus on quantitative finance, macroeconomic forecasting and AI-based systems for financial applications.

A central research line is the development of nowcasting and forecasting frameworks at the intersection of AI and economics. In collaboration with the Italian International Economic Center (IIEC), the Lab is developing an Econometric Accelerator integrating machine learning, alternative data and econophysics-based modeling to estimate key macroeconomic variables such as GDP and inflation in near real-time.

The approach combines multi-frequency data sources, including high-frequency alternative data and lower-frequency macroeconomic indicators, and is supported by collaborations with institutional and industry partners, including Nexi Group for payment transaction data. Research activities rely on advanced computational infrastructure, including collaboration with CINECA.

The Lab operates within an open research framework, collaborating with academic, institutional and industry partners, and develops methodologies for financial markets, including systematic strategies and data-driven decision systems. The Lab has contributed to scientific publications and continues to expand its research activity alongside ongoing patent development.

Frontier Research

Producing advanced scientific research on AI and Machine Learning methodologies, Large Language Models and quantum and quantum-inspired technologies, applied to financial markets and macroeconomic analysis.

Predictive Models & Platforms

Developing predictive models, agentic systems and AI-driven technology platforms to support investment decisions and economic policy, with a focus on alternative data, econophysics and explainability.

Dissemination & Collaboration

Sharing research results through scientific publications, reports and media, and fostering collaborations with universities, research centres, financial institutions and companies, in Italy and abroad.
